The first week of 2018 is behind us and I hope you had a blessed and peaceful holiday. My week was spent with family and some of my most treasured memories were of hiking, ice skating and viewing the lights at VanDusen Botanical Gardens.
This year I led a dream board workshop and had a lot of fun with cutting, pasting and colouring. It seems the root of many people’s difficulties with planning the new year is that they dare not dream.
When I ask them, why? They tell me it is because they, “Can’t” have what they really want so there is no point in dreaming about it. When I ask a few more questions it doesn’t take long to see that the, “Can’t” is self-imposed.
How many of us have told ourselves we can’t without allowing ourselves to really dream and begin to put a plan into action?
Over the years I have studied many experts, read hundreds of books, attended seminars and listened to thousands of hours of audio before realizing that many of the people I listened to shared mostly the same points.
How interesting, I thought. Why is it they all share the same points packaged in different stories? What was even more surprising to me, the points are few and really simple. If they are simple, why is so many people struggling?
This year I came to the opinion that is because we fear failure, other people’s criticism and don’t think we are good enough. This is something that we can overcome and I would love to share a few pieces that I found inspiring and very helpful to help me plan my 2018.
If you spend a couple of hours planning your 2018 I believe you will find it to be more prosperous in the end.
Today at church our pastor spoke about how to create the foundation to experience a fruitful year. He laid out 7 steps that you can take and put into action starting today. Pastor Barry has been teaching and preaching the bible for over 40 years and I always feel so blessed when he gives me his time to share his lens of viewing a situation. His wisdom and guidance has helped me to achieve success in a few of the most difficult areas of my life.
You can listen to the audio of Sunday’s sermon at northsidechurch.ca and hear him tell you all about these steps and how you can use them in your own life. He didn’t love my request for a photo shoot but obliged me and here it is.
A great read, shared by Richard Branson, on LinkedIn, written by Simon Sinek on becoming our best self. This is not a plan your year article, it is a become your best self article. This is number one on my agenda for the new year and worth the time to read. https://www.virgin.com/entrepreneur/editors-letter-simon-sinek-fulfilling-potential
Dr. Leaf has a 21 day thought detox program. This is a very affordable program and has a huge impact on starting a new year with intentional thinking and becoming aware of the toxic thoughts that are holding you back.
Wake up and live by, Dorothea Brande http://www.ruralinnovationinstitute.com/resources/WakeupandLiveBrand2.pdf This is an old read but still very relevant to today as well as what I wrote about the dream board discovery. If you find fear of failure holds you back this is an excellent book to read.

How this has been an old favourite of mine. I have listened to it many times and it is a great one if you are finding it difficult to achieve a goal.
If you have a few favourites please share them below or at our facebook group https://www.facebook.com/healingvictoriously/ and if any of these help you let me know, I would love to know what you like best.
Praying you have a prosperous 2018!
