My time living in Ladner was short and sweet. I was very fortunate to become part of an inspiring group of laddies that met every week. They all had children around the same time, and we would share drinks, food, stories and laughter.
I’ll never forget the first time I went to Ladner hospital, it was on Halloween and we had taken our kids trick o treating. We thought that the hospital would x-ray our children’s candy, so we stopped in.
The receptionist was so happy to see the kids and their cute costumes. She told us they don’t really x-ray candy. She shared with the kids, how and why to check their candy. (Most memorable experience for the kids for sure!)
Next, was for broken arms and legs. I have three kids and we became known by name at both The Delta Hospital and Richmond General Hospital. My gratitude for the staff, nurses and doctors is endless. They stitched us back up, bandaged broken bones, removed tonsils, repaired hernias, took away migraines and fixed broken hearts, it goes on and on…. and so does my gratitude!
Us moms, also met weekly at the health unit. We would measure and weigh our babies, listen to a guest speaker and chat about the week.
I asked the group if they could spare any baby items, as my neighbor was pregnant and expecting a baby at a very young age. Simone volunteered to bring some items the next week.
I was amazed when she called me and gave me a whole bunch of baby items. There were brand new things and I even think I remember seeing a cute baby tux in the bags. My neighbor was thrilled and this is how I met Simone.
Over the next few years, I have remained friends with Simone through social media. I enjoy and look forward to her positive, uplifting posts. Her and her husband have created and have a loving family, and believe in sharing it with the community.
